The abortion chain Planned Parenthood is shelling out a huge chunk of cash to back pro-abortion candidate Ralph Northam for Virginia governor this fall.
Politico reports the abortion chain’s political arm partnered with several other liberal PACs to buy $2 million in digital ads for the pro-abortion Democrat. The ads begin this week and will continue through November.
The pro-abortion PACs hope to reach 1.2 million voters with the message that Northam is a “true champion for women’s health” because he supports unregulated abortions up to birth.
“Northam’s position is so extreme he supports abortion on demand – that’s abortion for any reason anytime during the pregnancy – and he favors using your tax dollars to pay for abortion,” said Karen Cross, political director for the National Right to Life Committee.
And that’s why Planned Parenthood wants him in office.
Current Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe has been a strong supporter of the abortion industry, Planned Parenthood in particular, and the abortion chain does not want to lose the seat to a pro-life leader like Republican gubernatorial candidate Ed Gillespie.
Deirdre Schifeling, executive director of Planned Parenthood Votes, told Politico that they are trying new and innovative methods to reach voters online.
“When it comes to women’s health in Virginia, everything is on the line, which is why we are doubling down to elect progressive champion Ralph Northam,” Schifeling said. “We are pushing boundaries with the most coordinated and innovative digital program we’ve seen on this scale. This cutting edge digital program in Virginia will set a new precedent for coordinated investment and execution of a digital media program to reach, persuade and mobilize voters in a statewide race.”
Others involved in the ad buy are the Tom Steyer-backed Next Gen America, Priorities USA Action and the Virginia League of Conservation Voters PAC, according to the report.
Planned Parenthood plans to spend $3 million to support Northam for governor, the abortion chain’s Virginia affiliate announced in August.
Virginia Planned Parenthood spokeswoman Jennifer Allen previously called Northam a “champion” because he supports abortion on demand.
Northam currently is the lieutenant governor of Virginia.
In contrast, Republican candidate Ed Gillespie has a strong pro-life record. According to NRLC, he has promised to support legislation to protect unborn babies from abortion and people who are elderly or have special needs from assisted suicide and euthanasia.
NRLC’s Cross continued:
Gillespie has a long history of pro-life advocacy within the Republican Party. As chairman of the Republican National Committee, Gillespie strongly supported the pro-life plank in the Republican platform. When he was Counselor to President George W. Bush, Ed championed pro-life Congressman Henry Hyde to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom. This year, Gillespie accompanied Mike Pence for the Vice President’s historic speech to the March for Life.
Despite huge political spending by abortion activists, Planned Parenthood-backed candidates have lost a lot of elections in the past year.
Last fall, the abortion chain spent $38 million to support pro-abortion Democrat Hillary Clinton for president and other pro-abortion candidates. Most of the candidates lost. Then, earlier this year, it poured more than $700,000 into a closely-watched Georgia Congressional race, but the pro-abortion candidate also lost to pro-life candidate Karen Handel.
Meanwhile, the abortion business Planned Parenthood continues to receive close to half a billion taxpayer dollars annually to support its deadly work. It is the largest abortion business in the United States, killing more than 300,000 unborn babies every year.
Earlier this year, Planned Parenthood leaders refused an offer to receive an increase in taxpayer funding if they stopped doing abortions. CEO Cecile Richards called the offer “obscene and insulting,” making it very clear that abortions – not women’s health care – are what really are important to Planned Parenthood.
