Update 5/19/18

While we know 10 were killed on Friday including two substitute teachers, today we learned there were thirteen injured, one of the injured includes the school resource officer who was first to confront the shooter.

We don’t yet know what motivated the shooting but there are reports he was teased by some classmates and teachers and that he targeted his victims.  There are also reports he was turned down by a girl who embarrassed him in front of a class.

Here is a picture of the girl and a little about her:

Shana Fisher, who turned 16 this month, was also in art class when the shooting began.

Her mother, Sadie Rodriguez, said Fisher had rejected the shooter’s romantic advances a week before the attack.

“She finally stood up to him and embarrassed him” in class, she said.

Rodriguez described her daughter as a “shy and sweet” girl with a passion for video games.

“She had a lot of love in her heart,” her mother told the Houston Chronicle.

Meanwhile, the shooter’s parents released the following statement on Saturday:

We are saddened and dismayed by yesterday’s events at Santa Fe High School. We extend our most heartfelt prayers and condolences to all of the victims. We also wish to thank all the first responders from all over Texas that assisted in rendering aid and support.

We are as shocked and confused as anyone else by these events that occurred. We are gratified by the public comments made by other Santa Fe High School students that show Dimitri as we know him: a smart, quiet, sweet boy. While we remain mostly in the dark about the specifics of yesterday’s tragedy, what we have learned from media reports seems incompatible with the boy we love.

We share the public’s hunger for answers as to why this happened, and will await the outcome of the investigation before speaking about these events. We have been and will continue to cooperate with the authorities conducting the investigation, and ask for the public’s patience while it moves forward.

We ask the public to please extend privacy, both to the victims and to our own family, as all of us try process these events, and begin the healing process.

Per KHOU11 Houston, ten people are dead, that number has not changed from yesterday. What has changed, 13 people are now listed as injured. The number was ten on Friday.

We can also verify that GoFundMe has created a page of all the verified accounts where you can donate money to the victim’s families.

There are still rumors going around that Dimitrios Pagourtzis was bullied by coaches. Santa Fe ISD released a statement on their FB page saying that information is false. We will find out more as the case goes through the court system.

Another rumor circulating, the gunman used an AR-15 during the shooting. That information is false. Pagourtzis used a shotgun and a .38 revolver.

Update 5/18/18 12:00pm

Governor Abbott briefed the public about the shooting stating he plans to put a task force together to have roundtable discussions with the legislators and to meet with community leaders to prevent these shootings.

Governor Abbott also revealed the shooter desired to commit suicide after but couldn’t do it and turned himself into police. A shotgun and .38 caliber handgun were used in the shootings. They belonged to the father, it’s not known how the shooter obtained the guns or if the father was aware his son had the weapons.

Update 11:53am

Dimitrios Pagourtzis, 17, was identified as the person in custody in connection to the shooting at Santa Fe High School, The Associated Press reported.

CNN reports Pagourtzis posted a photo of himself online wearing a black t-shirt which said “born to kill” and pics of a coat with Nazi symbols. He was on the honor roll in junior high and played on the football team his freshman year. He was said to be a good football player, but quiet according to one student who knew him from a class.

It’s still unknown where he obtained the weapons, explosives and means to make them.

Update/Edit:

Horrific, another school shooting… this time in Texas. At least 12 injured😕10 dead, including nine students and one teacher, suspect in custody, police say another potential suspect is an 18-year-old accomplice. He was detained earlier but police have now taken him into custody. But believe only one shooter was involved.

Clear Lake Regional Medical Center says at least six students were discharged with minor injuries. At least one student in fair condition will likely stay in the hospital a few more days. At least four other students and one resource officer are still in surgery and stable condition at other hospitals. The school resource officer is the only one reportedly in critical, but stable condition.

Update/Correction:

One adult, school resource officer, is in critical condition after a gunshot wound to the upper arm causing major blood loss, another female student is also in surgery at this time but in stable condition. A 16-year-old student is in stable condition and will likely not need surgery.

Police are now sweeping a mobile home about two miles from the school where they fear there may be explosives. A suspect is in custody.

Federal and county officials tell KHOU 11 News multiple students were killed and an officer was wounded when a shooter opened fire inside Santa Fe High School.

The school is located about 30 miles southeast of Houston.

Multiple sources at the scene tell us there are at least eight to ten people dead. The exact number of those injured is unknown.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez confirms one suspect is in custody. A second person has been detained.

“I’m told they’re both students,” said Gonzalez. “One was identified as the suspect and another was detained, for what reason I don’t know.”

The main suspect is said to be 17 years old. His name has not yet been formally released.

The gunfire was first reported at about 7:40 a.m. Friday. Witnesses said at least one suspect came into the school and opened fire in an art class. Some students also said the shooter was throwing explosives into a classroom.

There are conflicting reports that a fire alarm was pulled before or after shooting occurred.

A possible explosive device has been located at the school and near the high school. Law enforcement with bomb squads are sweeping the seen.
